For the first time in the past 10 years the number of immigrants arriving in Israel, has ceased to decline, but increased significantly.
Ministry of Immigrant Absorption has reported that in 2009, arrived in Israel 16,244 new immigrants, while in 2008 - only 13,859, which is a demonstration of the impressive jump of 17%.
The largest number of immigrants arrived from the former Soviet Union - 7.120. From the U.S., Canada and Britain, 5,294 people arrived.
